Middlesbrough vs Brentford Predictions
This is a repeat of the Championship play-off Semi-Final which Middlesbrough won 5-1 on aggregate in May. While the hosts have basically maintained the same squad that took them to the brink of the Premier League, Brentford have changed managers and sold players including star striker Andre Gray.
The result has been a fair amount of inconsistency but overall they look a considerably weaker outfit this term. They’ve only won 1 of their opening 6 games in all competitions, losing heavily on a couple of occasions but they did pick up a decent point away to Leeds at the weekend.
The fact that they are so unpredictable could be a danger for Middlesbrough but the hosts should really have enough quality to seal the win and won the 2nd leg of the play-off final 4 months ago 3-0 at the Riverside.
The Teesiders were one of the favourites for promotion at the start of the season having added some good players but they appeared to be missing Patrick Bamford a little in the opening weeks and struggled to a 0-0 draw at Preston on the opening day prior to a shock 1-0 home defeat to another of the newboys, Bristol City.
However they’ve sorted one or two things out and are beginning to look far more dangerous. Either side of the international break, they beat Sheffield Wednesday away 3-1 and followed that up with a comfortable 2-0 victory over MK Dons at the weekend, with Stewart Downing creating one and scoring the other.
Brentford have the ability to surprise and are likely to be a bit more positive than many sides who come here but that could leave them easy to pick off on the counter and at the back, which is what happened in the 2nd leg of the play-off final.
Therefore although the visitors may net at some point in the game, you can certainly still see Middlesbrough getting all the points and they are worth a bet at 11/8 to win this and there to be 3 or more goals in the game.
The visitors have scored in all but one of their Championship games so you can certainly see them finding a goal but the gulf in class is such that Boro should be able to still win by a couple of goals and you can back them to seal a 3-1 triumph at 11/1.
