Middlesbrough vs Nottingham Forest Predictions
Boro were threatening to run away with this division having won all their festive fixtures and had racked up 5 wins on the spin in the league going into last weekend’s game at struggling Bristol City. However a 90th minute goal from Wes Burns saw them fall to a 1-0 defeat although their position remains very strong and they boast a 6 point lead on 3rd place Derby with a game in hand.
At the Riverside they have been sensational this season particularly defensively. Middlesbrough have only let in 2 goals all season at home in the league and come into this game on the back of an incredible 9 consecutive home clean sheets in the Championship. Against a Nottingham Forest side that have only scored 9 times in 13 away matches this season, surely backing another home clean sheet makes sense at 10/11.
Forest are in decent form though and are unbeaten in 11 matches overall after their 3-0 win over bottom club Bolton last weekend that moved them into the top half. There have been too many draws though for Dougie Freedman’s side to really push themselves into play-off contention and they haven’t won any of their last 9 matches on the road and it is hard to see that changing here.
They would certainly settle for a point and are likely to set their stall out to be tough to break down against a Middlesbrough side that do at times struggle to break sides down who play that way against them.
There is enough quality in their ranks to suggest they will find a break-through at some point in the game though so consider backing a narrow 1-0 win for the leaders at 9/2.
