Middlesbrough vs Sheffield United Predictions
- Middlesbrough have won 10 of their last 14 home league games.
- Sheffield United have failed to score in five of their last nine Championship away contests.
- Marcus Forss currently has the highest individual xG per 90min of any Championship player.
Forss to be reckoned with
Middlesbrough need to kickstart their season with a win at home to Sheffield United on Sunday and new signing Marcus Forss can help them do that.
The flying Finn, who currently has the highest individual xG per 90min of any Championship player, opened his goal account for Boro in last weekend’s 3-2 defeat at Queens Park Rangers when Chris Wilder’s side were made to pay for a sloppy first-half display. Forss had scored nine goals in 15 Championship starts before his switch to the Riverside Stadium – where he has linked up with a team with proven supply lines that had seemingly just lacked a finisher to convert his fair share.
In order to ensure they finish inside the top six this season, Boro will need to replicate their home form from the back-end of 2021-22. Ten wins out of the last 13 at the Riverside Stadium last term was promotion form, but it wasn’t matched by their away results.
Blades don’t cut it on the road
The Blades lost as many Championship away games as they won last season and didn’t score enough goals during the run-in and playoffs, so it was perhaps no surprise to see them misfire at Watford in their opening game. This should be another tough game for them and Paul Heckingbottom’s men are worth opposing once more.
United picked up a decent home win against a depleted Millwall side last weekend but the Lions still created plenty – only lacking the finishing touch. That’s another reason why Boro could find them out on Sunday and hence the home side are our preferred play in match result betting.
A 2-0 scoreline is forecast because Boro have scored two or more goals in seven of their last 12 at home while the Blades have failed to register in five of their last nine league games on the road.
