Reason For Millwall vs Huddersfield Predictions

  • Millwall have won only one of their last eight home games, drawing on four occasions
  • Huddersfield have lost only one of their last six league games, sharing the spoils three times
  • There have been two or fewer goals in four of Huddersfield’s last five league games

Lions may settle for a point

Millwall’s playoff hopes were ended with Saturday’s 4-3 defeat at QPR and the lack of an incentive may leave them vulnerable at home to Huddersfield.

The Lions had won three of their four matches prior to that, claiming 1-0 wins over Charlton, Hull and Blackburn, but they have been inconsistent at the Den and now find themselves with nothing but pride left to play for.

However, Millwall have won only one of their last eight home games, drawing on four occasions and we think another stalemate is the likely outcome. They have shared the spoils in eight of their 22 of their league games on their own patch.

This year Millwall have been held to a point by Barnsley, Stoke, Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham – four teams who like Huddersfield find themselves 16th or below in the Championship standings.

Huddersfield can remain competitive

Huddersfield are all-but safe after Friday’s 2-1 win at home to West Brom but the sacking of Danny Cowley which followed tempts enthusiasm about them following that up.

Despite losing only one of their last six games to steer themselves away from relegation trouble, Huddersfield parted company with Cowley after just ten months in charge.

How Huddersfield react to that decision is unknown but the Terriers have shown in recent weeks that they are a difficult side to beat with draws in three of their last five games against Preston, Reading and Sheffield Wednesday.

Having failed to score in four of their last five games, Huddersfield are super reliant on the goals of Karlan Grant and it’s unlikely the showdown at the Den is going to be full of excitement.

Expect goals to be in short supply

These sides shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Huddersfield earlier in the season and we are predicting a similarly close rematch.

With two or more goals in only one of their last seven matches, the Lions are not the type of team to readily outclass their opponents and Huddersfield may have enough quality to pinch a point.

Millwall have drawn four of their last seven home games, three of which ended 1-1. Our prediction is for the pair to take a point apiece with that scoreline favoured.

There have been two or fewer goals in four of Huddersfield’s last five league games and they have drawn three of their last five games.
