      Under 2.5 Match Goals

      Reason for tip

Having conceded 16 and 18 goals, Minnesota and San Diego have the second and third best defensive records in the West and a low-scoring clash can be expected when the top-three rivals clash on Sunday. Under 2.5 goals has been a winning bet in four of San Diego’s last five matches and should land again.

      Draw 1-1

      Reason for tip

With this pair level on 30 points and only split by goal difference, a draw seems the likeliest outcome. Minnesota have drawn two of their last three matches and the home stalemate in that run finished 1-1, so back the same scoreline in this clash.

Minnesota United vs San Diego Predictions

      • This pair are locked on 30 points, sitting third and second in the Western Conference
      • In the West, only the conference leaders, Vancouver, have conceded fewer goals than Minnesota’s 16
      • Four of San Diego’s last five matches featured less than three goals

Minnesota may be frustrated by plucky San Diego

Newcomers San Diego have exceeded expectations in the early days of their debut MLS season, sitting second in the Western Conference after 17 matches. They will now have their sights on a spot in the playoffs and could make great strides towards that goal when they head to the West’s third-placed side, Minnesota United, on Sunday.

However, they will need to be at their brilliant best to get a positive result at Allianz Field, given they are level on points with their hosts, who are also unbeaten in four home matches.

That Minnesota run began with a 4-1 rout of Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami but they are unlikely to be just as freescoring against San Diego, who have conceded just three goals across their last seven matches.

Top-three tussle likely to be a tight affair

Minnesota will have to work hard to break down a stubborn SDFC defence but the same is true for the visitors, who may struggle to find their scoring touch against the West’s second-sternest backline.

In the Western Conference, only Vancouver (12) have shipped fewer goals than United’s 16, suggesting that a tight and tetchy top-three tussle is on the cards at Allianz Field.

The fact that four of San Diego’s last five matches have featured less than three goals only adds fuel to that fire and backing the under looks the best punting play for this crucial clash at the West’s summit.
