Montenegro vs Turkey Predictions

  • At least three goals have been scored in six of Turkey’s last seven games.
  • At least three goals have been scored in five of Montenegro’s last seven matches.

Take Turkey to be involved in another goal show

Turkey have their eyes firmly on the prize of automatic qualification and recent results could indicate the universe is aligning for Stefan Kuntz’s side to claim a spot at Qatar 2022.

The Crescent-Stars have won their last two games, coming from behind to win in Latvia with two late goals and then thrashing Gibraltar 6-0 on the night the Netherlands slipped up to leave their path to top spot open. Admittedly neither of those opponents are as strong as Montenegro, who did Turkey that huge favour by battling back from two goals down to deny the Dutch their win on Friday.

But Kuntz has definitely discovered more backbone in this group of players than had looked to be there when he took over following their 6-1 humiliation in Amsterdam in September. The former Germany U21 coach has switched to a 4-2-3-1 formation that suits the players and doesn’t allow opponents to pin them back so much when out of possession. They are scoring goals and have a real chance of slipping through with a win on Tuesday.

Tense group situation means draw may do

That said, the group situation is such that they could finish top with only a draw if Norway stun the Netherlands, so we will swerve the outright betting and go in search of goals.

Both these sides have got the sort of attacking make-up that suggests at least three can be scored in Podgorica with our correct score prediction of a 2-1 Turkish win based mainly on the greater grit the visitors have shown, but also the fact that Montenegro might not have much more to give after their late show against Louis van Gaal’s men.
