Draw 0-0

Reason for tip

Monza have drawn their last two matches 0-0 and appear to have been working on a gameplan that frustrates opponents. They have kept three clean sheets in a row and could hold out for a draw again if AC Milan are in any way jaded from their midweek Europa League exertions.

Monza vs AC Milan Predictions

  • Both teams have not scored in Monza’s last four Serie A games
  • Both teams have not scored in AC Milan’s last two games in all competitions
  • Monza have drawn their last two matches 0-0

Monza’s approach may make Milan think

Monza will look to take down Stefano Pioli’s potent AC Milan side on Sunday the only way they know how – by boring the visitors into submission.

The Lombardy club run by the two main boardroom figures behind Milan’s success in the 1990s and 2000s have not yet taken a point from the Rossoneri in three attempts since ascending to Serie A.

Coach Raffaele Palladino saw his side thumped 3-0 by Milan at the San Siro earlier this season and will not want to suffer the same fate. He appears to have been practicing for this game over the past few weeks with an approach that has yielded three clean sheets in a row, but only one goal scored.

Rossoneri have been relying on late goals

In those last three games, neither team on show has managed to create enough quality chances to register anything above 0.9 expected goals (xG). Contrast that to Milan’s recent swashbuckling approach and you can see why Palladino wants to close the game off.

The Rossoneri have scored three goals or more in six of their last nine matches, including each of their last three Serie A away trips to Empoli, Udinese and Frosinone.

Milan have been getting away with it so a small degree as they have relied on very late goals to win two of those contests, but they may not have too many opportunities to display their scoring touch if Monza ensure the game is played to their tune.
