Tip Reasoning

  • Morecambe have failed to win their last four home league games.
  • Fleetwood have avoided defeat in five of their last eight away league contests.
  • Fleetwood have won their last two League One matches while Morecambe have lost their last three.

Fleetwood should stay afloat against listing Morecambe

Fleetwood will start Saturday’s Lancashire derby just above Morecambe in the League One table and we expect the status quo to remain when the final whistle blows at Mazuma Stadium.

Four weeks after winning 2-1 when the sides met at Highbury, the Shrimps have slipped into the relegation zone on the back of taking just five points from the last 33 available.

Stephen Robinson’s men have lost their last three in the league by a combined score of 11-0 and can’t bring much confidence into this contest. They could be without centre-back Ryan Delaney, who picked up a knock in the 2-0 loss at Portsmouth last weekend after he replaced Scott Wootton, who is definitely out. Midfielder Freddie Price is also unavailable after sustaining a concussion during training this week.

Cod Army conceding less in recent times

So this looks like a great opportunity for Fleetwood to gain revenge for the home reverse last month and to record their third league win on the bounce. Stephen Crainey seems has changed little since he took over from Simon Grayson, but only two goals conceded in back-to-back home wins over Bolton and Gillingham is a vast improvement on their overall defensive record.

Morecambe, as the slight favourites, look a bit short in the betting given they have failed to win any of their last four at home and we are opposing them here with a bet on Fleetwood in the double chance market. The Cod Army are on a roll at the moment and their defensive improvement suggests they may not need to score multiple goals to avoid defeat here.

The Shrimps, who average 1.4 goals per game at the Mazuma Stadium, have shipped eight goals in their last three home league games, however, so we are leaning towards a 2-1 away in in correct score betting.
