Morecambe vs Forest Green Rovers Predictions
Any side who are battling against the drop know that they need to capitalise on any improvement in form if they are to defy the odds and ensure their survival. Perennial strugglers Morecambe managed to claim victory last time out and they will be looking to build on that good result this Tuesday evening when they welcome a Forest Green Rovers side who will be determined to maintain the pressure at the top end of the division.
It has been a pretty miserable start to the season for Morecambe and although they managed to upset Colchester in a rare 1-0 victory at the weekend, they have claimed just 10 points this season and sit second from bottom. Saturday’s clean sheet will have come as a welcome relief as the hosts have the worst defensive record in the division having conceded 26 times from their 14 outings to date. It’s not as if things are any easier at home either as the Shrimps have just three points on home soil this term, another tally which is the worst in the league.
High-flying Forest Green took a bit of a tumble last weekend and backed that up with a 2-2 draw with Mansfield just a few days ago. The visitors have now won four of their last eight, only one of which they’ve lost, while they remain inside the coveted top seven and are still in touch with the title challengers. At times this season,
Mark Cooper’s men have been criticised for not doing enough offensively, which in fairness, is a reasonable criticism of a side that has scored considerably less than all but one of the other six teams currently in the top seven, though as the old saying goes, there’s more than one way to skin a cat. To be successful this term, maybe Forest Green, who tend to focus more on building in possession rather than fast-paced attacking play, don’t need to score that many goals. After all, they’re very difficult to beat.
Forest Green are undoubtedly fancied to get the win in this contest and we see little reason to disagree with that sentiment. However, there is a word of caution here as the hosts will be buoyed following Saturday’s exploits and the visitors are perhaps on a little blip following their last two results. With this in mind, adding the “Draw – No Bet” safety net would not be a bad shout here.
For correct score backers, we cannot see this one being a thriller and it will likely be settled by a single goal. Given the defensive strength of the visitors, a 1-0 away win seems the most likely scoreline.
