Morocco vs Comoros Predictions

  • Morocco have won to nil in five of their last seven AFCON finals matches.
  • Comoros have failed to score in four of their last seven competitive games.
  • Morocco have won 14 and drawn three of their last 17 senior internationals.

Coelacanths in deep trouble against Morocco

Morocco were nowhere near their best in the opening game, but should be able to play with a bit more freedom against tournament debutants Comoros on Friday. The Atlas Lions got the 1-0 win they needed against Gabon to put themselves in  position to qualify from Group C and can let the handbrake off a little against the group minnows next.

Outside of the African Nations Championship and Arab Cup, Vahid Halilhodžić’s side are unbeaten in their last 17 games with an impressive run of 14 wins and only three draws stretching back to 2019. We expect them to comfortably extend their ten-game winning streak against much weaker opposition than they have been up against recently.

Comoros kept themselves in the game against a COVID-hit Gabon team for long spells, but lacked the initiative or invention to create any real danger. The Coelacanths may be in a little too deep against a powerful Morocco side that can come at them from all angles, particularly if the shackles are off.

Clean sheets abound for Atlas Lions at AFCON

A -1 handicap bet on the favourites could be a good option, but the stats are definitely pointing at a Moroccan win to nil, given the Atlas Lions have won five of their last six AFCON finals games with a clean sheet.

The market for Morocco to win and both teams not to score offers a slightly better reward for exactly the same thing to happen, so that is the selection alongside a 2-0 win for Halilhodžić’s team. Comoros have only conceded more than twice in a game on one occasion in the past two and a half years.
