Dundee United kicked off their Premiership season with six wins from their first 10 matches and that solid foundation still leaves them in fourth place despite just one victory in their five most recent matches.

Dundee United are now four points ahead of Motherwell (fifth) but won’t have been happy to drop points at bottom club Ross County with a 1-1 draw on Saturday. A 2-0 win at third-placed Hearts typified Motherwell’s indifference when playing at Fir Park as it followed a 6-1 drubbing at home to Rangers and a 2-2 draw when hosting a struggling St Mirren. Excluding the six goals, they conceded against Rangers, the Well have shipped eight goals in seven matches at home.

The hosts were beaten 3-0 by Dundee FC on Saturday who moved off the foot of the table with that win and took Motherwell’s goals conceded tally up to 24 through 15 matches.
