Motherwell vs Hearts Predictions
- Motherwell have drawn two of their last five home games
- Hearts have won only one of their last five away matches
- Two of the three Premiership meetings of these clubs this season have finished all square
Frayed nerves for Hearts at Fir Park
Hearts face another decisive test of their title credentials at Fir Park on Saturday night when they take on a Motherwell side looking to lock up a European place. Derek McInnes’ men took a bold step towards ending their 66-year title drought with a 2-1 Bank Holiday win over Rangers and remain three points clear of Celtic with three games to go.
The Jambos also have a five-goal advantage over the Hoops if it were to come down to that after their final day showdown with Martin O’Neill’s side at Parkhead. They beat Motherwell 3-1 at Tynecastle a few weeks ago but the result could easily have gone against them with Jens Askou’s men creating more big chances and a greater expected goals (xG – 2.01) than theirs (1.73).
The two previous encounters between the clubs were both drawn and it would be no surprise if this game remains on a knife-edge for long periods.
Draw the sensible option
Having beaten Rangers at Ibrox the week before, Motherwell surprisingly lost 1-0 to Falkirk last weekend – although the Bairns seem to have had the Steelmen’s number whenever they have faced off this term.
The odds reflect how close this contest should be and Hearts backers must take a major leap of faith given McInnes’ side have lost three and drawn one of their last five away games. Perhaps the draw, which has occurred in two of Motherwell’s last five at home, is the sensible option here.
Blair Spittal has been coming off the bench to give his teammates a much-needed boost in recent weeks and could be a bit of value in goalscorer markets.
