Nantes vs Clermont Predictions
- Nantes have won three of their five Ligue 1 home games this season.
- Clermont have lost two of their last three Ligue 1 away games, conceding 11 goals in the process.
- Clermont have scored six times in total in their five away games this season while Nantes have conceded four in their last four home games.
Take on-song Canaries to beat Clermont
Nantes look a good at a better-than-evens price to beat a Clermont side that are conceding too many goals away from home.
This Saturday’s clash at the Stade de la Beaujoire will be the two sides’ first competitive meeting in over eight years, although Clermont did win a pre-season friendly that was played at a neutral venue in the summer.
The Canaries are a much-improved unit on last season’s version that fought against relegation and can even be considered surprise top six contenders based on their current form.
Antoine Kombouare, who took over in February, has moulded a strong collective that works hard and has a sprinkling of star talent in the form of winger Moses Simon. Nantes have won three of their five Ligue 1 home games this season, only dropping points to two sides above them in the current top six – Lyon and Nice.
They have dealt comfortably with teams expected to be around Clermont’s position in the standings like Metz, Brest and Troyes, so we don’t think they will slip up against the promoted side on Saturday.
Clermont’s bubble burst
Clermont won back-to-back games on their return to the top-flight, but there bubble was quickly burst as they picked up four points from the next 21 on offer prior to stunning champions Lille at home last weekend. Any thought that such a victory could provide the springboard for another should be tempered by the realisation that Lille are stuck in the wrong half of the table at the moment and the game was a scrappy affair.
Picking up points away from home is still a bit of a struggle as 11 goals conceded in their last three would suggest, although the Lancers do have the ability to score at the Beaujoire if spearhead Mohamed Bayo has his shooting boots on.
The selection here if for Nantes – whose three home wins this term have all been by more than a goal – to earn another three points, although we do take Clermont’s potential to punish any defensive slip ups by advising a 3-1 correct score bet.
