Neman Grodno vs Energetik-BGU Predictions

  • Neman Grodno have only won one of their five Belarus Premier League games this season.
  • Energetik have avoided defeat in five of their last seven away games in the league.
  • Two of Neman Grodno’s last three home league games have ended 1-1, including their last meeting with Energetik.

Goalscoring woes for Neman Grodno

After losing their opening match away to Isloch, Neman Grodno looked as if they might have turned a corner as they embarked on a three match unbeaten streak. However, the hosts were brought back down to earth last weekend as they were comfortably beaten at the hands of Dinamo Minsk.

Neman Grodno failed to register a single shot on target in that 2-0 defeat, a statistic that punctuates where their major issues lie right now. They have scored just three goals in the Belarus Premier League this season and they averaged a meagre 0.93 goals per game in last year’s campaign.

Despite the hosts’ three match unbeaten streak they still find themselves looking back on a single win from five attempts this season, which undoubtedly puts them in the bracket of potential relegation candidates.

Energetik look to rediscover early season form

Energetik-BGU only finished three points above the relegation playoff spot last season, but they started the 2020 term in blistering fashion as they dispatched BATE, Rukh Brest and Minsk in succession.

However, things have fallen by the wayside in recent weeks. Their loss at home to Gorodeya last weekend resigned them to back-to-back defeats in the top flight, pushing them down to 6th in the table. They are only a point adrift of the top spot though so victory on Friday could see them reclaim that position, even if it is temporary.

Hosts’ winless ways set to continue

Energetik have clearly made the better start to the season and they will be keen to rediscover their form on Friday against a side struggling for wins. We expect they will, at the very least, end their short losing streak.

Neman Grodno have only won five of their 17 home league games since the beginning of last season, while Energetik have avoided defeat in five of their last seven away days in the top flight. Backing an Energetik win or draw double chance looks a promising option in this case.

That being said, the hosts have made themselves difficult to beat at Stadyen Nyoman, losing only one of their last seven matches there. With two of their last three league games at home ending 1-1, including their most recent hosting of Energetik in November, we think another low scoring stalemate is on the cards.
