New York Red Bulls vs Vancouver Whitecaps Predictions
After a poor start to the season New York RB are making their way up the Eastern Conference table and would move into the top four with a win on Thursday at home to Vancouver Whitecaps. The visitor’s form has been mixed over recent weeks and the Canadians arrive without a win in their last two matches and sitting ninth in the Western Conference.
New York RB played the majority of Sunday’s game at home to Atlanta United with ten-men, following Parker’s sending-off in the thirty-fifth minute for denying a goal scoring opportunity. Despite Atlanta United’s domination of the possession, the visitors rarely looked like breaking the deadlock and New York RB’s hit their guests with a sucker punch when substitute Barlow got his head on the end of a fantastic cross from Royer to score his first ever MLS goal and the host’s only shot on target to claim all three points. Vancouver Whitecaps found themselves 1-0 down at the break away at Sporting KC, but the hosts had their goalscorer Németh sent-off early in the second half. The visitors kept pushing forward in search of the equalising goal and eventually got their reward when substitute Cornelius netted his first MLS goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time, and the game ended 1-1.
The recent head to head record between these two clubs, their performances and results over the last month or so, all point towards a New York RB win and under 2.5 goals scored. New York RB are unbeaten in their last three MLS games against Vancouver Whitecaps, picking up two wins and a draw, and under 2.5 goals have been scored in three of the last five meetings between the two clubs. New York RB have won four of their last five matches, and Vancouver Whitecaps have only won one of their six away games so far this season. Under 2.5 goals have been scored in three of New York RB’s and five of Vancouver Whitecaps’ last six matches, which is why we are expecting a tight and tense affair on Thursday and have backed New York RB to claim a 1-0 win.
Cásseres, Muyl, Royer, and White have all scored two goals each in the MLS for New York RB this season, while Montero leads the way for Vancouver Whitecaps with three league goals. We’re confident that New York RB will win and under 2.5 goals will be scored in the process, and have predicted a 1-0 final scoreline. The hosts look strong at home and that win over Atlanta United proves they can still carve out results, even without some of their key players. The recent history between these two clubs favours New York RB, and both teams have been involved in a large number of low scoring games of late.
