Newcastle need momentum under Eddie Howe

Newcastle have still only won once since Eddie Howe took charge in November, but a run of just one defeat in five home games suggests they might be beginning to turn a corner.

The Magpies, who have suffered one third round exit in the last five years, have scored in all bar two of their last nine top flight matches at St James’ Park and are desperate to start stringing together a run of results.

This fixture perhaps offers the perfect opportunity to do that. Newcastle have not been knocked out of the FA Cup by a side from the third tier or below since 1992, when they lost on penalties to Bournemouth in the fourth round.

Cambridge struggling for goals

A run of three games without a win has seen Cambridge slip down the league table, and they certainly do not appear to be in the form needed to pull off an upset.

Mark Bonner’s side have failed to score in those three games, while their away record is poor over an extended period of time, yielding only three victories from 14 matches on the road this season.
