      Newcastle vs Liverpool Predictions

Newcastle just don’t seem to be getting any better, despite a fairly promising run of performances a few weeks back.

Their 6-2 thrashing of Norwich was followed by a good performance against Sunderland, a draw against Stoke, and a hard fought victory against Bournemouth.

But all that hard work seems to have been for nothing. They have lost their last two games comprehensively, with Leicester beating them 3-0 at St James’ Park and Crystal Palace hammering them 5-1 last weekend.

This result saw them slip back into the dreaded Premier League relegation zone, with Sunderland’s win seeing them overtake their arch rivals. They have picked up just ten points from their opening 14 games, and they hold the joint worst defensive record in the league.

Newcastle have conceded 30 Premier League goals already this season, scoring just 14 at the other end. Six of these came in a single match as well, leaving them with a return of eight goals from their other 13 matches.

Both teams are suffering from a number of injury concerns. Newcastle have no less than ten players missing for this trip, whilst Liverpool are without the likes of Danny Ings, Joe Gomez, Jon Flanagan, Mamadhou Sakho, and Jordan Rossiter for their trip to the north east.

Liverpool have started winning matches with good regularity in recent weeks. They have won seven of their last eight games in all competitions, with only a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace marring their record.

Their last match will have instilled a massive amount of confidence into them as well, with their 6-1 thrashing of Southampton in the Capital One Cup seeing Daniel Sturridge net a brace and Divock Origi score a hat trick.

Newcastle have conceded two or more goals in eight of their last 11 outings in all competitions, whilst Liverpool’s recent good form has seen them net more than one goal in three of their last four matches.

This makes odds of 8/13 for Liverpool Over 1.5 Team Goals look very attractive to me, so I’m backing that along with a 3-0 correct score prediction at 12/1.
