  • Newcastle have lost their last three home league games.
  • Benjamin Sesko has scored seven goals in his last eight appearances.

Magpies struggle to take flight

Newcastle’s disappointing domestic season continued with a high-scoring defeat to Everton at the weekend, and now they face a resurgent Manchester United with top-four ambitions on Wednesday.

The Magpies’ loss on Saturday was their fourth Premier League defeat in their last five games and their third on the spin at St James’ Park, and this dismal top-flight form is something that Michael Carrick’s Manchester United will be looking to take advantage of.

Sharpshooting Sesko to star at St James’ Park

The Red Devils came from behind to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 on Sunday, extending their unbeaten streak to 11 league assignments, the first of which was a 1-0 win over Newcastle on Boxing Day.

They have won six of their last seven outings, scoring 14 goals in the process and securing shock results against Arsenal and Manchester City in January.

With Carrick bringing a new lease of life to the previously struggling United, backing them to get the win appeals, along with a repeat of their Sunday scoreline against Crystal Palace, which was the fifth time in seven games in which they have scored at least twice.

Benjamin Sesko could be the scorer of at least one of those goals, too, after earning a starting berth against Palace. He has scored seven goals in his last eight appearances, despite coming off the bench in five of those.
