Struggling for form

Last season saw Newport County defy all expectations and go within a whisker of promotion, despite most people expecting them to be in a battle towards the other end of the table. This season, however, those same results have not been replicated as they have failed to keep the same defensive stability and are well down on the league position they accomplished in the previous campaign.

Newport come into this match having won just two of their previous eight league games, however, their home form has been pretty solid and the fact that they have earned 72% of their points on home soil is testament to this fact. Away day blues

At the start of the campaign most pundits will have predicted that Morecambe will have been in or around the drop zone as they lack the sort of financial capabilities to compete with the majority of the division. However, the Shrimps are old hands at survival as they face an almost annual battle for survival, so they will not have panicked when they became embroiled in the battle at the bottom.

Most of their troubles this season have come whilst on their travels as the visitors have been defeated in 12 of their 18 away matches this term. Considering that they have lost a total of 18 times this term, the fact that two thirds of those defeats have come on the road shows just how concerning this figure is to their survival chances.

Home advantage could prove key

Unfortunately for the visitors, we just cannot see them overturning a frankly awful record on the road. The Shrimps have lost 67% of their away matches and concede an average of two goals per game when away from home. This, combined with the fact that Newport are much stronger on home soil, suggests that backing the hosts with the “Draw – No Bet” clause represents the best chance of a decent return.
