Tip Reasoning

  • Northampton have won just two of their last 16 home fixtures, losing eight.
  • The Cobblers have netted just 14 goals on their own turf this season at a rate of 0.78 goals per game.
  • Oxford have lost just two of their last dozen away trips, winning six.
  • The U’s posted a convincing 4-0 victory over Town in December’s reverse fixture.

Cobblers to crumble again on home soil

Oxford crushed Northampton 4-0 in December’s reverse fixture and The U’s should get the better of The Cobblers once again when the sides clash at PTS Academy Stadium this Tuesday night.

United’s Play-Off aspirations were dented at the weekend following a 0-2 home defeat against Blackpool, but Karl Robinson’s men remain just three points off the top six.

The problem for Oxford is the number of teams above them in the pecking order, as they go into this midweek game 11th in the table. They need to string a sequence of victories together to seriously get in contention, and their trip to Northampton looks a good place to start doing just that.

Town netted six goals across back to back wins here at the start of the month, but the goals have dried up again since in defeats to Charlton and Crewe, either side of a goalless stalemate against Doncaster.

Aside from those two victories, the Cobblers have drawn six and lost eight of their last 16 outings here and they’ve managed to net just 14 goals on their own turf all season.

Oxford have won six of their last 12 on the road (D4, L2) and are fancied to take advantage, especially after dispatching Town so convincingly in the last meeting.

The visitors score at a healthy rate on their travels with 27 goals bagged in 18 starts, so we’re predicting a 0-2 success with Town failing to strike in 12 of their 18 home fixtures this term.
