Northampton Town sit three points and one place behind Wednesday’s visitor Swindon Town, in fourteen position on twenty-eight points from their twenty-three games in League Two. The form of both teams has been indifferent of late, but the hosts are in the midst of a four game unbeaten run in league and cup heading into Wednesday’s match.

Chances were few and far between when Yeovil played host to Northampton on Saturday, and you could count the number of shots on target from both teams combined on one hand. Northampton had 55% of the overall possession, seven corners to their hosts four, and one more shot on target than Yeovil, so it wasn’t much of a surprise to see the visitors open the scoring through Williams in the eighty-eighth minute. Despite there being just a couple of minutes left for Northampton to see out, Yeovil brought themselves back onto level terms a minute after going behind to claim a share of the spoils.

Swindon Town could also only manage a draw at the weekend when they played host to struggling Cheltenham. The home side had 52% of the possession, nine corners to their guests six, and three shots on target to Cheltenham’s one, but could not break down the visitors during the ninety minutes. The finishing of both teams was wayward to say the least, with the hosts having six shots off target and the visitors seeing five efforts fail to trouble Vigouroux in the Swindon goal. Swindon Town could have moved level on thirty-three points with Carlisle United if they had won that game, but a draw was probably a fair result at the end of the day.

Swindon played host to Northampton back in October, where after a goalless first half both teams scored in the second period, but the game finished all square. This match was very even other than the corner count which the visitors dominated twelve to four, with Swindon Town having 54% of the overall possession. Midfielder O’Toole scored on the hour mark to hand Northampton the lead, but veteran Matty Taylor levelled for the hosts thirteen minutes later and the game end in a 1-1 draw.

With three wins, one draw, and two defeats from their last six matches its Swindon Town who head into this match as the form favourites, but Northampton have only lost one of their last six and earned three draws, and two wins. Dutch striker van Veen top scores for the hosts with seven goals in the league so far, while Doughty leads the way for Swindon with six goals, four of which have arrived in the form of penalties.

We’re confident that both teams will score in this game, and have backed the final score to end 1-1. Both teams have scored in eight of the last ten meetings between these two clubs. Five of Northampton’s last six matches have seen both teams score, while three of Swindon’s last five have also seen both teams score. Northampton have drawn three of their last six matches, and were expecting these two teams to play out another stalemate just as they did in October’s reverse fixture.
