Northern Ireland vs Hungary Betting Tips

When Hungary held Group F leaders Romania to a goalless draw on Friday, the 3-1 victory that Northern Ireland secured in the Faroe Islands let them overtake the leaders and move into the top spot.

This win put Northern Ireland’s points tally up to 16 from their first seven games, one point more than the now 2^nd placed Romania.

With their final two matches definitely winnable, a win against Hungary on Monday could well be the final hurdle in their race to qualify for their first ever European Championship Finals.

Hungary are a bit of a challenge though, as was proven by their holding of Romania on Friday. Their only wins in Group F have come against Finland and the Faroe Islands, but they have secured two draws against group favourites Romania.

Hungary base their performances around a rigid and organised defence, with few goals scored but even fewer conceded. They have netted five times in their seven games so far, but only conceded three at the other end of the pitch.

But two of these conceded goals have come against Northern Ireland, who beat them 2-1 away from home in the opening match of this qualification period.

This was Northern Ireland’s first win against Hungary, with all of the previous three meetings ending in defeat for them. But with two of those games occurring in the 1980s, we can’t put too much emphasis on the results.

I think it will be a tough match for Northern Ireland, but so far they have only failed to beat Romania. I think the optimistic home crowd will get behind their team as they look to qualify for their first major finals in 30 years, and that will drive them on to victory.

But make no mistake, it will be a tough game for them, but odds of 13/10 for Northern Ireland to win look fair to me.
