Northern Ireland Women vs England Women Predictions
- England hammered Norway 8-0 to make it 16 games unbeaten under Sarina Wiegman last time out.
- The Lionesses have scored a massive 93 goals across those fixtures, conceding three.
- England have played Northern Ireland three times since the start of 2021, winning 6-0, 4-0 and 5-0.
- Northern Ireland have lost six consecutive games, conceding 19 goals.
Does another rout beckon for England?
Sarina Wiegman’s England wrapped up top spot in Group A with a remarkable 8-0 thrashing of Norway last time out, and can make it a third successive major tournament with a 100 per cent group-stage record by beating Northern Ireland in Southampton on Friday. Though the hosts could make wholesale changes at St Marys, fans should expect another goal-fest.
Remarkably, England have scored 93 goals and conceded just three in 16 games under Wiegman, going unbeaten throughout. They’ve faced Northern Ireland on three occasions since early 2021, winning all three games by an aggregate score of 15-0, and have beaten a -3 handicap in five of their last seven games – including against the Netherlands and Norway – the teams ranked fourth and 11th in the world.
Northern Ireland, meanwhile, claimed a small victory with their first-ever major tournament goal against Norway in their opener, although their two defeats at the Euros have made it six losses in succession including friendlies, and Kenny Shiels’ team have shipped 19 goals across those contests. Like England, they have little to play for after being eliminated with a game to spare, and look unlikely to put up much of a fight.
Lionesses hungry for more goals
Considering England’s incredible attacking returns, we’re backing them for another big victory on Friday – regardless of whether Wiegman makes changes. Backing the Lionesses to beat a -3 handicap at a shade of odds on looks good value when considering the one-sided nature of the teams’ last few meetings.
Meanwhile, a 5-0 England win could represent a decent correct score prediction, and Manchester United’s Alessia Russo – who has five goals in nine caps after scoring as a substitute on Monday – could be a strong anytime goalscorer punt if the hosts ring the changes.
