Nottingham Forest vs Barnsley Predictions
- Barnsley have won seven of their last eight league games against bottom half opposition, including their 2-0 victory at home to Forest in November.
- The Tykes have just one point from their last four games, but their three defeats in that sequence came against the current top three.
- Prior to their last four starts, Valerian Ismael’s side won five Championship matches from six.
Tykes a Team to Trust Against Bottom Half Sides
After an extremely difficult run of fixtures, Barnsley look well-priced to regain the winning thread this Saturday when they take on Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
The Tykes make little appeal at first glance of the recent form stats, considering they have picked up just one point from their last four and failed to score in the three defeats suffered in that sequence.
But each of those losses came against the current top three in the Championship, and we know that Barnsley’s forte this term has been consistently taking points from teams around and below them.
Indeed, Valerian Ismael’s men won seven straight league matches against clubs positioned below them in the table prior to that brick wall of fixtures and that excellent run was only ended by a Cardiff side seeking to impress new manager Mick McCarthy in midweek (2-2).
That run also began with a 2-0 victory over Forest at Oakwell in November and the Tykes should be supported here at around 2/1 despite the hosts’ recent resurgence in terms of results.
Forest notched 12 points from six starts prior to their midweek loss here against Middlesbrough, but it’s fair to say that all of their opponents in that stretch were in poor form and struggling.
Barnsley are eight places and ten points superior in the table thanks largely to their efficiency against the lower teams and we’re expecting that trend to continue on Saturday with a 1-2 success at the City Ground.
