Nottingham Forest vs Barnsley Predictions

  • Nottingham Forest have won four of their last six home Championship games, scoring at least two goals each time.
  • Forest have kept clean sheets in four of their last nine Championship fixtures.
  • Barnsley have lost nine of their last 11 Championship away fixtures (2 draws).
  • Barnsley have conceded at least two goals in five of their last six Championship away games.

Forest have fundamentals to force a win

Nottingham Forest’s rise up the Championship should continue to gather momentum when they take on a Barnsley team that have sunk to the bottom of the table. Steve Cooper’s side continue to display all the fundamentals of a team that can make the playoffs and maybe still carry a threat to the automatic promotion spots.

The Reds got the better of rivals Derby County on Saturday to move into eighth place in the standings. They have scored at least two goals in four of their last six at the City Ground and can do so again when Barnsley bring their woeful away record to the banks of the River Trent.

Tykes now the worst team in the division

Barnsley are clearly the worst team in the division, having shipped 12 in their last six away trips and taken just one point from the last possible 27 on the road. Realisation that they haven’t got enough to stay up has hit home in south Yorkshire and it would seem it’s now all about seeing who will be sticking around for next season in League One.

Barnsley have scored in their last three road trips, however, which is enough to make us think twice about backing Forest to win to nil.

The odds on at least two Forest goals are somewhat better than the match result price for the home team, so that would seem an alternative way in to backing the hosts. A 2-0 scoreline is still worth taking in correct score betting, however, because the Reds are capable of holding weak teams at home and have kept four clean sheets in their last nine now.
