Tip Reasoning

  • Nottingham Forest have won three of their last five home Championship games.
  • Forest dominated their 0-1 home defeat to Huddersfield on Thursday, producing an xG of 1.7.
  • Barnsley have lost eight of their last ten Championship away fixtures (2 draws).
  • Barnsley have conceded at least two goals in five of their last six Championship away games.
  • Brennan Johnson has scored two in four and had an xG of 0.7 against Huddersfield last time out.

Forest can fire back after terriers slip-up

Nottingham Forest’s rise up the Championship suffered a blip on Thursday when they couldn’t quite get what they deserved against a dogged Huddersfield United.

But Forest backers shouldn’t worry too much as Steve Cooper’s side continue to display all the fundamentals of a team that can make the playoffs and maybe still carry a threat to the automatic promotion spots.

The Reds dominated their opponents and created enough chances to score multiple times, which they had done in three of their four previous home games too. We fully expect Forest to get at least two goals against a bereft Barnsley side that are clearly the worst team in the division, having shipped 12 in their last six away trips and taken just one point from the last possible 24 on the road.

Recent Barnsley form suggests they could bag a goal

The odds on at least two Forest goals are only marginally better than the match result price for the home team, understandably so given the hosts also failed to score in a 0-0 draw with Luton not long back. So, although we think  Barnsley aren’t good enough defensively to stop the hosts firing in twice, the safer play is undoubtedly the home win.

An alternative bet that has merit though is to back Brennan Johnson to bag. The young wide forward has scored two in his last four appearances and went unrewarded, despite an xG of 0,7 against the Terriers on Thursday.

A 2-1 scoreline is predicted here because Barnsley have managed to score in four of their last five away games – exactly once each time.
