Nottingham Forest vs Fleetwood Town Predictions
Having looked like losing on Saturday, Forest staged a late comeback to snatch a point at Elland Road. After that encouraging result, Sabri Lamouchi’s men will fancy themselves to get their first competitive win of the season when they host League One’s Fleetwood at City Ground on Tuesday evening.
Nottingham Forest did spend most of Saturday’s game against Leeds struggling to contain a tremendously technical and creative Leeds side, though ultimately, they resisted well enough. Having held onto their hats at Elland Road, the Forest back four should be in for a simpler time against League One opposition.
First time out, Lamouchi’s men came unstuck at home against West Brom, though if we examine their performance closely, it’s not too difficult to envisage them doing well on Tuesday evening. On that occasion, despite conceding twice, Forest restricted their opponents to few real opportunities, as they conceded only 0.5 expected goals and just three shots on target. Unfortunately, they weren’t up to much going the other way, as they posted only 0.73 expected goals for.
Unlike Forest, Fleetwood come into this match off the back of a win at the weekend, as they got the better of AFC Wimbledon, despite being a goal down. That’s now two wins from two games for Joey Barton’s men.
After winning each of their opening two League One matches, the Cod Army will come into this fixture in buoyant mood, though this will be their toughest test yet. Moreover, although they did beat Peterborough on the road, it’s not as if they were firing on all cylinders in terms of creativity in their first away match.
When they played at ABAX Stadium just over a week ago, Barton’s men were very effective, while their finishing was certainly on point, though in terms of overall creativity, their efforts didn’t leave the best impression. Barton’s men posted only 0.67 expected goals for, which doesn’t exactly suggest that they’ll carve out an awful lot away against Championship opposition.
Both teams may rotate a little, though as they go in search of a first competitive win, Forest are unlikely to weaken too much, especially as they’ve now got a manager who has been known to like cup competitions. Sabri Lamouchi has both a Coppa Italia title and a Coupe de France title on his CV.
In the betting, ‘Nottingham Forest to Win & Under 3.5 Goals’ stands out. Forest haven’t looked overly creative so far, but they have performed as though holding off League One opponents is within their grasp. Add in Fleetwood’s general lack of creativity when playing away from home in their own division and backing the home side to win without running riot looks like a viable option.
