Oldham vs Charlton Predictions
Oldham continued on the up at the weekend when beating fellow relegation rivals Coventry 3-2 in front of a home crowd. That victory marked the first time the hosts have netted three goals in a league match since 2015. It’s definitely fair to say that Oldham have turned the corner of late and they’re well on their way to climbing out of trouble if they continue in the same vein.
On the other hand, Charlton’s season has come to a bit of a halt lately. They might be unbeaten in seven matches, but they’ve drawn four of those and are now six points off the play-off places. The Addicks main problem is that they aren’t the highest scoring team and could struggle a bit against an Oldham side who’re pretty useful defensively.
The fact that Oldham have finally added a few more goals to their game is certainly the reason for their recent success; however, their back-line, who’ve actually done a good job all season, deserve plenty of credit.
Having conceded just 15 goals at home this season, the hosts kept more clean sheets (eight) than all but two teams (who’ve also both kept eight) in League One. In recent matches they’ve been able to put this defensive solidity to good use and could once again make things very hard for a Charlton side who don’t exactly offer the most menacing attack.
Having won three of their last four at home, John Sheridan’s men should be in really good spirits ahead of this match and, if they can continue to defend well, then there’s every chance that they can continue in good form by taking all three points here.
