      Tip Reasoning

      • Oxford have kept a clean sheet in no less than 64% of their home matches this term.
      • Wimbledon have kept zero clean sheets on the road this season, conceding in 15 out of 15.
      • Only two League 1 teams have conceded less shots on target at home than Oxford this season.

      U’s on the slide

After fighting hard to earn a point away at Burton, Oxford would’ve been hoping to take another step back in the right direction last time out, but they were unable to manage that, as they were foiled by promotion rivals Sunderland, losing by a goal to nil.

Karl Robinson’s men aren’t out of the play-off race, but they’re starting to make life difficult for themselves. Fortunately, Kassam Stadium remains a place where the U’s are very tough to beat. They’ve given little away at home this term, and even when they have lost, it’s been by the narrowest of margins.

Tuesday’s hosts also have a pleasing home record against bottom-half teams this season, winning four and drawing one of their five matches against teams that currently reside in 13th place or below. In those five matches, the U’s have scored nine goals. They’ve conceded just one at the other end and have kept four clean sheets.

      Dons tough to beat

Wimbledon remain in an unflattering position, but they once again showed that they’re not a side that lies down at the weekend, as they fought back late on to earn a point away against the league leaders. That result means that the Dons come into this match off the back of two draws against top-six opposition, which should give them a confidence boost.

However, for all Wimbledon do come into this match fresh from a couple of pleasing results, their overall travelling record against top-half teams is very worrying. Tuesday’s visitors have won none of their eight away games against teams that currently reside in the top half. More alarmingly, they’ve drawn just one of those eight and have conceded at least twice in seven. Such stats do not bode well ahead of Tuesday’s clash.

      U’s to bounce back

Oxford aren’t in great form right now, but it’s not as if they’re getting battered, while their record at home cannot be argued with. In the betting, ‘Oxford to Win & Under 3.5 Goals’ catches the eye. For a start, the U’s home record against bottom-half teams is exceptional, though four goals have not been scored in any of their matches against such opposition. Add in Wimbledon’s dreadful away record against top-half teams and the home win appeals even more. The fact that Oxford have kept so many clean sheets at Kassam, especially against the weaker teams, also lends itself to the selection, as does the fact that more than three goals have been scored in just one of their last 11 home matches, seven of which they’ve won.
