Oxford United vs Arsenal Predictions
- Oxford have won just one of their last five games
- Four of Arsenal’s seven cup games this season have been wins to nil
- Arsenal have won 20 of their 25 games in all competitions this season
Most successful FA Cup side get campaign underway
Arsenal are the most successful team in FA Cup history, winning the trophy 14 times, most recently in 2020.
The Gunners have won four of the last nine competitions and will be looking to continue their good record in the tournament this season after their top start in the Premier League.
Mikel Arteta has landed a fairly straightforward third-round tie as well, against League One side Oxford United.
U’s finding competitive division tough
Oxford United finished just outside of the League One play-off places last season and their 82 goals was the most of any team in the division.
However, Karl Robinson’s men have struggled to back that effort up this time around, sitting 14th after 24 games and scoring just 29 times in that run.
The Yellows have won just one of their five matches since the World Cup break and suffered a 1-0 loss to Exeter last time out.
Young Guns shining for Arteta
Mikel Arteta has masterminded an impressive start to Arsenal’s Premier League campaign and they sit with a lead at the top of the Premier League that almost none of their fans would have predicted.
The Gunners did miss out on the chance to temporarily open up a ten-point gap over Manchester City when they were held to a 0-0 draw by Newcastle on Tuesday but nevertheless they are clearly on the right track.
Key to their performances has been their young stars, such as Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba, this young core look set to have a big say in the title race.
Chance for squad players to shine
Given the busy schedule, it seems likely that Mikel Arteta will give some of his squad members the opportunity to make their case for starting in the Premier League in this game.
That hunger to demonstrate to their manager that they can contribute to the Gunners’ success means that they should be able to register a comfortable success in this clash.
