Palmeiras vs Sao Paulo Predictions
- São Paulo have conceded first in four of their last five games.
- Palmeiras suffered a setback last time out but are the second top scorers in the league and should bounce back.
- The hosts are unbeaten in their last three games against São Paulo.
Setbacks for both sides
Third place Palmeiras suffered a shock 2-1 loss away to midtable side Fluminense during the week. It was a fight from the offset and it saw 12 cards brandished, resulting in two red cards late on for Abel Ferreira’s side. It is a setback and, whilst unlikely, it means that their automatic qualification spot for next season’s Copa Libertadores is not sealed; they sit just eight points clear of fifth-placed Corinthians.
São Paulo were dealt a hammering in their last outing as they lost 4-0 at home to Flamengo. It was extremely disappointing considering their defence had been much more organised in recent matches. It was unlikely they’d get the win anyway but a tenth-minute sending off for forward Jonathan Calleri left them with a mountain to climb, and as we’ve seen over previous weeks, the São Paulo backline became fatigued and conceded a host of opportunities. That result leaves them just two points clear of the relegation zone, despite playing a game more. The unthinkable couldn’t happen, could it?
Palmeiras to pounce on struggling Sao Paulo backline
We think Palmerias previous result was somewhat of a blip and given they’ve been formidable going forward this season, they should capitalise on a deflated São Paulo outfit and expose the visitors’ suspect backline. Expect the hosts to get back to winning ways here, scoring a couple of goals in the process.
