Philadelphia Union vs Seattle Sounders Predictions

These two sides both occupy second place in their respective Conferences after having excellent starts to the new season. Both teams were victorious last time out, but Philadelphia Union have had a full week to prepare for Sunday’s match, while Seattle Sounders were involved in a league game on Thursday.

An own goal from Mavinga handed Philadelphia Union a twenty-fifth minute lead away at Toronto last time out, but the hosts managed to equalise early in the second half. Philadelphia Union were under the cosh for large parts of the second half, but defended manfully and pinched all three points thanks to a sixty-eighth minute effort from Jamiro. Seattle Sounders home game against Orlando City wont last long in the memory, as both teams struggled in the final third. A nineteenth minute effort from Ruidiaz proved enough for Seattle to lead at the break 1-0, and in the second half Bwana made it 2-0 with twenty-two minutes left on the clock. Orlando City did manage to pull a goal back with their first shot on target, but never really threatened to equalise and the hosts held on to secure all three points.

The recent head to head record between these two clubs and their performances in the MLS over the last few weeks, suggests that both teams will score and over 2.5 goals will be produced on Sunday, with Philadelphia Union the most likely winners. Both teams have scored and over 2.5 goals were produced in four of the last six meetings between these two clubs, and Philadelphia Union have won three of the last four encounters between the pair. Philadelphia Union have won four of their last five matches, and both teams have scored in three of Philadelphia Union’s last four and five of Seattle Sounders’ last six matches. Over 2.5 goals have been scored in three of Philadelphia Union’s last five and three of Seattle Sounders’ last six matches, and with that and all of the above in mind we’re backing a 2-1 win for Philadelphia Union this weekend.

Accam top scores for the U’s this season with four goals in the MLS, while, also with four goals to his name, Morris leads the way for Seattle Sounders. We’re confident that both teams will score and over 2.5 goals will be produced in Sunday’s game, and have predicted a final scoreline of 2-1 to Philadelphia Union. Both teams are in good form so we are expecting a very close and competitive ninety minutes, but with the home advantage and a good recent head to head record against their guests, we believe the hosts will just do enough to pinch all three points.
