Poland vs Lithuania Predictions

Poland head in to Tuesday’s game looking to get a win under their belt ahead of their World Cup opener. There’s just seven days between their final friendly and their clash with Senegal in Moscow. Will they be going in to that clash on the back of a victory, or are they going to be shocked by Lithuania this week? Their first clash of the tournament is likely going to be a key game, so we think that the Poles need to finish their preparations for Russia with a victory, especially against a team who really struggled in their bid to qualify.

Poland are in with a chance of winning Group H, especially as their main rivals are Colombia. However, their 2-2 draw with Chile last week seemed like a setback. They haven’t been fantastic warming up for the tournament, so their final game needs to go well. Their plan in recent tournaments has been to sit back and soak up pressure, so they will surely need to return to that style here. Their tournament clashes are likely to be tight, so the Poles will need a strong set up at the back.

Lithuania head here following a defeat to another side who made it to the tournament, as they lost 1-0 against Iran at the weekend. That followed a draw with Latvia and a loss to Estonia, so they’re likely to struggle against a Poland side who dominated their group. The hosts won all of their home matches on their way to Russia, while they were unbeaten at home on their way to Euro 2016. Will they follow up that impressive run by claiming a victory here?

Lithuania only beat Malta in their qualifying campaign, as they picked up five of their six points in the opening three games. They lost six of their last seven matches, losing to England in their final game. That record doesn’t bode well, neither does their head to head with Poland. Lithuania have lost five of their eight trips to Poland, and we expect that poor streak to continue.

Poland are heavy favourites, and we can see why. They’ve got a strong record at their own ground, while Lithuania are poor travellers. The away side have lost seven of their last nine away trips, and those defeats have all been to nil. Their poor scoring record saw them lose without scoring in five of their six defeats in the World Cup qualifiers, and we can see them suffering a similar fate here. Poland to win to nil is our tip, and we’re also going for a 2-0 victory for the hosts.
