With the cup competition disrupting the momentum of the league season in midweek, thoughts can now return to the main competition this weekend and teams around the country will hope that they are able to pick up from where they left off. This Saturday sees two sides who have been pretty solid in their start to the campaign as Port Vale welcome Cambridge United to Vale Park.

While plenty in League Two had to worry about squad rotation for the cup competition, Port Vale’s exit in the first round meant that they had the chance to take a few days rest. Although Vale are able to find the back of the net, they will be concerned about their defensive record and they have yet to keep a clean sheet this season.

Making the trip to Vale Park is a Cambridge United side who will be hoping that they are able to bounce back from the heavy defeat they suffered in the Carabao Cup at the hands of Swansea City. United were on the end of a 6-0 defeat and with that result coming off the back of their first defeat in the league, a 2-1 loss at the hands of Oldham Athletic last Saturday, there will be concerns that this sequence of results is the start of a loss of form.

With both sides coming into this match off a defeat, they will both be keen to prove that they have the steel required to bounce back and picking a winner looks to be a pretty difficult task. Given that the hosts have seen both teams score in all of their matches this season while their visitors have conceded 12 times in their last five matches, it seems that there will be goals in this fixture.
