Preston vs Brentford Predictions

This is one of the toughest games to call this weekend in the Championship. Both teams have been a bit inconsistent but Brentford will take confidence from two excellent home displays and with a brilliant recent record against Preston, the Bees look like they could spring a minor surprise here.

They’d been so dependent on Scott Hogan for goals this season that you had to fear a bit for Brentford when his January move away from the club was finally completed. However, they come into this match having scored 6 goals in the space of 2 games against Aston Villa and Brighton, two sides who have been defensively pretty good this term. That should send them into this game on a positive note and they look to be thriving under this new system.

One man who has stepped up to the plate in Hogan’s absence is Lasse Vibe. The Danish striker has looked lively and bagged a brace in the win over Villa to take his tally so far in 2017 to 4 goals. You can back Vibe to score anytime at 7/4 here.

Further reason to think the visitors will get a result comes from Preston having won none of their last 4 matches and only 2 of their last 9. Their overall win ratio at Deepdale in the league is 40% and they are down in 17th in the home league table and some of their brightest showings have come away. Whatever the reason, Simon Grayson’s men don’t seem to be at their absolute best right now and that should present the visitors with an opportunity to take at least a point from the game.

They may have their eyes on more than that, especially when you take into account their recent record against Preston. Brentford are aiming for a 7th straight victory over the Lancashire club here. They’ve clearly become a bit of a bogey team for Preston and you can bet the players on both teams will be aware of that coming into this match. Brentford have been the more impressive side in recent weeks too, so backing Double Chance – Draw or Brentford at 8/13 looks like a decent punt here.
