      Preston vs Bristol City Predictions

These two are occupying the two positions directly above the relegation zone coming into the game which indicates neither will be totally happy with their starts. In many ways the pre-season thoughts about these sides have proved true. Bristol City were a free-scoring side last year as they romped to the League 1 title but have somewhat predictably been exposed at the back a number of times this season.

They are still scoring goals but have conceded 2 or more times in all but one of their games, which is always going to make it difficult to win matches at this level. Preston have the opposite problem in that they are still looking relatively solid at the back but have only scored 3 goals in their 6 matches.

If they can nullify the Bristol City attack here, you’d fancy them to add to that tally and win the game despite coming in on the back of 3 straight defeats. By the same token Bristol City will think, this might be a game where 1 or 2 goals will be enough to win given how lackluster Preston have being going forward.

Last season it was certainly the Preston defence that got the better of things, only conceding once in their two matches against the eventual Champions and taking 4 points. Their most recent meeting in April finished level though and this could go the same way with neither side really doing enough to convince you that they are going to have what it takes to win the match.

With home advantage and against a poor defence, Preston won’t get a better chance to get things going in an attacking sense and they should be able to get at least one goal here. They have been fairly positive in their last two home games, scoring in both against decent sides in the form of Ipswich and Derby. Both games have resulted in defeats though and given Bristol City haven’t failed to net since the opening day, you can see both teams scoring here at 5/6.

With both sides lacking in the confidence that winning games brings, you sense it could get a bit nervy towards the end though and it may well be that neither has the conviction needed to go out and take all the points. Therefore consider backing a 1-1 draw at 5/1.
