Reason For Preston vs Nottingham Forest Predictions

  • Preston have won only two of the last ten league fixtures
  • Nottingham Forest boast the third best away form in the division, losing only three of their 21 away games this season
  • Both teams have scored in six of Forest’s last eight away league games

Preston playoff hopes to be halted

Preston’s playoff hopes were flagging after seven league games without a win but they came up with the goods at Sheffield Wednesday (3-1) and will be hopeful of following up at home to Nottingham Forest.

However, The Lilywhites had lost home games against Cardiff and Derby as well as being held to draws by Huddersfield and Luton prior to that and they haven’t shown enough to suggest they can live up to their billing as playoff contenders.

Preston have won only two of their eight home league games this calendar year, with their two victories coming against relegation candidates Charlton and Hull.

Alex Neil’s men have won only two of their previous ten league meetings with top-six rivals this season and, having failed to score in five of their last ten games, may struggle to keep tabs on highflying Forest.

Strong travelling Forest can oblige

Nottingham Forest boast the third best away form in the Championship and can bolster their strong road record with victory at Preston.

Forest have lost only three of their 21 away league games this season, recording wins at Fulham and Brentford and earning a point on their trip to Leeds.

In fact, Sabri Lamouchi’s side have lost only one of their last nine road assignments and draws at Sheffield Wednesday and Derby since the Championships’s resumption highlight their resilience.

Forest, who are seven points better off than Preston with only four games remaining, were beaten 1-0 at home to playoff rivals Fulham last time out but there was little to separate the teams and perhaps the draw was a fair result.

Forest make more appeal than Preston, particularly with Lewis Grabban, Joe Lolley and Sammy Ameobi in attack, but they have shared the spoils in ten of their 21 away games and punters should take the draw no bet option as a precaution.

Goals should feature at both ends

Both teams have scored in six of Forest’s last eight away league games and we are predicting the net to bulge at both ends at Deepdale.

Both teams have also scored in five of Preston’s last seven league matches at Deepdale, where they are without a clean sheet in 17 outings since September.

Preston have suffered three consecutive home league defeats, losing 3-1 to QPR and Caridff and our prediction is the same scoreline in favour of Forest here.
