Key clash for European big guns

Paris Saint-Germain were thrashed 4-1 by Newcastle in the last round of Champions League fixtures and face another stern test against AC Milan on Wednesday.

The Group F these two heavyweights have been drawn in is this year’s proverbial ‘group of death’ and just three points separate leaders Newcastle from bottom team Borussia Dortmund after two games. PSG have three points on the board, while Milan are on two after opening their European bid with a pair of 0-0 draws.

Milan can get a result in Paris

Aside from a 5-1 Milan Derby mauling, the Rossoneri have been excellent defensively this season and they very nearly claimed a point against Juventus at the weekend despite playing the entire second half with 10 men.

PSG’s weaknesses were exposed ruthlessly at Newcastle in their last European game as they slipped to a heavy defeat despite dominating possession for large periods, and if the visitors get their tactics right here they should be able to avoid defeat in Paris so backing Milan in the double chance market appeals for our main bet.

Goals could be in short supply

PSG are capable of scoring heavily, but Milan have demonstrated they can keep it tight when required after clean sheets against BVB and the Magpies in their first two games. Stefano Pioli’s men were perhaps unlucky not to beat Newcastle and they also created some decent chances against Dortmund in Germany, and they may enjoy a bit more success against a PSG side that do look vulnerable at the back on occasion. As such, a 1-0 win for the visitors is the correct score prediction.
