PSV vs Utrecht Predictions
- PSV won 24 of the last 25 home encounters with Utrecht.
- PSV scored at least three goals in five of their last six home league games.
- Utrecht have conceded two or more goals in all but one of their away games this season.
It would be Ruud not to back PSV
Ruud van Nistelrooy’s PSV ran out comfortable 5-0 winners in European action during midweek in a result which means they can secure qualification to the knockout phase with two games to spare if they win next time out.
That result bettered their 1-0 win over Heerenveen in the previous game, but extended their winning run to three games in all competitions. That run can only compliment their unbelievable return of 24 wins across the last 25 home meetings with Utrecht!
Returning to the Philips Stadion will surely buoy PSV, as they haven’t lost here in domestic action since a visit from AZ back in February and eight of their 12 domestic home wins since then came with a margin of at least two goals.
It could be a long afternoon for leaky Utrecht
A narrow 2-1 defeat against league leaders AZ last time out ended Utrecht’s four-game unbeaten run, but the fact that they’ve conceded twice on average across all of their away games this season suggests that their front line will have to be at their firing best to get anything from this game.
Utrecht have won their last two away games, although victories at Excelsior and Sittard pale in comparison to the challenge a ‘Big Three’ (Ajax, Feyenoord, PSV) side poses. Utrecht lost their last two away games to such sides by a combined 6-2 scoreline, so they could be in for yet another pounding from PSV.
We’re looking to find value by siding with PSV, so we must take them in the -1 handicap market. As for the correct score, we’re siding with a 3-1 home win for smaller stakes.
