Tip Reasoning

  • Six of PSV’s last eight wins also saw them concede at least once.
  • PSV scored 2+ goals in four of their last six games.
  • Utrecht conceded at least twice in seven of their last eight visits to Eindhoven.
  • Utrecht lost while scoring a goal in their last three Eredivisie away games.

PSV to bounce back with a vengeance

After drawing with Heerenveen last time out, PSV know that they must bounce back here after Ajax already won their 15th league game of the season. Failure to do so would see the gap between them and Ajax remain at five points, one they may struggle to bridge.

This will by no means be an easy game for PSV despite their strong odds-on favouritism in the pre-game markets. The hosts have no fewer than eight first team players out through injury for this and as such, may be susceptible in certain areas of the pitch.

Even with some key players out, PSV boast an available attacking quartet of Ritsu Doan, Mario Gotze, Bruma and Carlos Vinicius. Between them, they have scored a considerable ten Eredivisie goals so far this season, a return which suggests another strong attacking performance.

Utrecht to give a strong showing

It is tough to write the visitors off here given that they are the only side to win at Ajax this season. Sitting just behind PSV in the table, they can cut the gap between the sides to just two points, so motivation for the win here is not in question.

However, the visitors are on a current three-game losing run of away league games despite getting on the scoresheet in each. Topically, visiting manager Rene Hake is yet to win a game against PSV (D3, L3), even though his side on the day scored in all six games!

All things considered, I predict a highly entertaining game at the Philips Stadion which could ultimately end in yet another disappointing afternoon for Rene Hake. As such, I am going for a 3-1 home win for Roger Schmidt’s men.
