Qarabag vs Anderlecht Predictions
Qarabag put in a good showing in their Champions League qualifying match against Scottish champions Celtic, holding them to a 0-0 draw at home but losing 1-0 in Glasgow.
This put them in the Europa League playoffs, and they managed to comfortably dispatch of Young Boys 4-0 on aggregate.
They looked to be carrying this on into the group stages too, going a goal up against Tottenham Hotspur within ten minutes. Unfortunately they couldn’t hold on in London, and eventually lost 3-1.
This was Qarabag’s first loss in eight games, with their last one coming against Celtic. They have won six of their last eight games in all competitions, but they could only manage a 1-1 draw against Neftci at the weekend.
This leaves them at the top of the Azerbaijan Premyer Liga with 14 points from their opening six league games.
Anderlecht have also enjoyed a pretty good start to the season, having picked up 18 points from their opening nine league games and sitting in 2nd in the Belgian Pro League.
They also managed to secure a decent 1-1 draw at home to Monaco in their Europa League opener.
Their 1-0 win against Sint-Truiden at the weekend took their unbeaten streak to eight in all competitions, with five of these ending in victory for the Belgians.
However, as Celtic found out, Azerbaijan won’t be an easy place to visit for Anderlecht. It will be unfamiliar territory and they will be coming into the game after a long journey.
Anderlecht have also been struggling to score recently. They have only managed more than one goal in a match once in their last five games, and that was against a lower league side in the Belgian Cup.
I think this is Qarabag’s best chance of picking up some points in this competition, and odds of 8/15 for a Qarabag Win or Draw Double Chance look like a fair price to me.
