Qatar vs El Salvador Predictions

  • Qatar are unbeaten in their last 11 internationals (W9, D2), keeping seven clean sheets in that run.
  • El Salvador have won six of their last nine starts (D1, L2), keeping seven clean sheets in total.
  • Under 2.5 goals have been scored in El Salvador’s last six matches, with the same applying to six of Qatar’s last ten games.

War of attrition in Arizona

Qatar and El Salvador will both view this Sunday’s clash in Arizona as a fine opportunity to reach the last four of the CONCACAF Gold Cup and we’re anticipating an extremely tight affair at State Farm Stadium.

Just 11 places separate the sides in the FIFA Rankings (Qatar 58th, El Salvador 69th) and there shouldn’t be a great deal between them on the pitch this weekend based on their group stage results and abundance of recent clean sheets.

Invitees Qatar had a rather sloppy opener against Panama which ended 3-3, but Felix Sanchez’ charges safely secured their passage to the quarters thanks to facile victories over Grenada (0-4) and Honduras (0-2).

Those results extended Qatar’s unbeaten sequence to 11 games (W9, D2), within which they’ve maintained an impressive seven clean sheets. Next year’s World Cup hosts will be tough to beat here in Glendale, though the same can also be said of their opponents.

El Salvador appear to have made marked progress of late, perhaps best measured by their slender 1-0 defeat to Mexico last time out. Prior 2-0 wins against Guatemala and Trinidad and Tobago already sealed their spot in the quarters and Hugo Perez’ men have now kept seven clean sheets in 11.

El Salvador’s last six outings have all produced under 2.5 goals and that’s our recommended bet for this Sunday’s game, as the sides’ relative ability and defensive qualities are hard to ignore. A goalless stalemate also looks possible taking into account the teams’ high volume of recent shut-outs.
