QPR to Win

Reason for tip

QPR have won five of their last seven Championship matches while Reading have lost three of their five away league games in 2022-23 and scored just twice on the road in 450 minutes of play. All three of Reading’s league defeats this term have come to sides that operate with a similar system to QPR.

QPR vs Reading Predictions

  • QPR have won five of their last seven Championship matches.
  • Reading have lost three of their five away league games in 2022-23.
  • Chris Willock has scored six goals in nine Championship appearances this season.

Rangers are on a roll

QPR can maintain their promotion challenge with a win over third-placed Reading in front of the TV cameras at Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium on Friday. The Rs’ victory over Championship leaders Sheffield United on Tuesday has made everybody sit up and take notice, but Michael Beale’s side have been playing some effective football for a while.

Their home form this season has been solid enough and, although they have only won two of five league games in West London, Rangers dominated four of those fixtures. Visitors Reading could still provide a tricky test given they sit just above QPR in third and stopped Norwich pinching top spot on Tuesday.

In a game of few chances, the Royals pegged the Canaries back thanks to a Jeff Hendrick strike after the visitors had cashed in on some slack defending from a set-piece.

Royals struggle against three-at-the-back

There’s no doubt Paul Ince’s side can play some effective Championship football too, but they tend to fare better against teams that operate with a back four rather than QPR’s three-man defensive set-up. All three of the Royals’ Championship defeats this season (4-0 Rotherham, 4-0 v Sheffield Utd and 3-0 v Sunderland) have come against such systems.

Hence, there is confidence in Rangers recording their sixth win in eight on Friday. Reading have lost three of their five away league games in 2022-23 and scored just twice on the road in 450 minutes of play.

Chris Willock, with six goals in nine starts this season, is worth supporting in anytime goalscorer markets while the preferred correct score option here is for a 3-0 win. QPR can be a bit feast or famine in goalscoring terms this season, but have hit three goals in two of their five home games while Reading have shipped eight times in their last four road trips.
