Real Betis vs Celta Vigo Predictions

Real Betis opted to sack Gus Poyet and recruit Víctor Sánchez last month and so far the former Depor boss will be relatively content with things. He’s guided his side to two home wins to nil but they were beaten 3-1 at Eibar so it’s still too early to judge what sort of an appointment he will turn out to be.

Overall there still looks to be quite a few flaws in their side and they haven’t been creating much from open play. Their two goals in their win over Las Palmas in Sanchez’s first game in charge both came from set-pieces and they’ve only netted 4 goals in their other 5 home games in La Liga. They’ve scored just 1.08 goals per game this term and have let in 1.92 at the other end although Barcelona and Real Madrid have scored 12 of the 25 goals they’ve conceded.

Celta Vigo certainly have more quality in their ranks, particularly in midfield, however, they are missing quite a few players through injury and suspension here. They’ve not been great on the road this season and are averaging just 0.83 points per game on their travels. They’ve netted just 6 away goals compared to 15 at Balaidos and they’ve certainly been more cautious on the road on the whole.

With a big Europa League game to come on Thursday and several players missing, Celta would probably be content to take a point from this game. They are a naturally adventurous side but we might see a more dogged display from them here as they will feel that Betis lack the sort of quality to break them down if it turns into a tight game. The hosts have more reason to target the win but they are clearly still a work in progress under Víctor Sánchez, who is trying to build some confidence into this team and a home defeat is not what he needs right now so it’s unlikely they will throw complete caution to the wind.

Therefore, a fairly even game looks likely and backing the draw at 11/5 could be the best approach to take.
