• Betis have scored twice in two of their first three despite a tough start

Betis hope to bounce back

Real Betis raced into a 2-0 lead away to Athletic Bilbao last weekend, only to fall to a 4-2 defeat. Manuel Pellegrini’s side have picked up four points from their first three games, but their performances have arguably backed up my view that they’re genuine top-four contenders this term.

They took a point away from Atletico Madrid after winning at Villarreal, so I’m willing to give them credit for last weekend’s defeat. Pellegrini is a good coach and the fact that he’s taken 13 points from his last five meetings with Rayo in La Liga suggests Betis can get back on track.

Rayo hurting from heavy loss

Rayo Vallecano put in two impressive displays in wins over Almeria and Granada, but they were hammered 7-0 by Atletico Madrid on Monday. That loss has to have shaken Rayo, who lost 10 times on their travels last term. That includes six defeats to the top nine, so Betis should prove too strong.

Betis have made the most of their opportunities going forward this term and having put two goals past both Villarreal and Athletic, they should hurt Rayo in this clash. Back the hosts to score at least twice in this encounter, which looks like excellent value.
