Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Al Hilal had chances outside of the penalty they scored against Real Madrid, finishing the game with 1.09 non-penalty xG. The Spanish outfit are dealing with defensive issues, while they face a Pachuca side that dominated their opener, forcing the Salzburg keeper into five saves. However, the Mexican side struggled to seal with Salzburg’s quality, an issue which will only get worse in this contest.

Real Madrid 3-1

Reason for tip

Real Madrid created 2.64 Expected Goals against Al Hilal, recording seven shots on target. They should look even stronger with a little more time for Xabi Alonso to get his ideas across, so back their quality to lead to a 3-1 win over a Pachuca side who have lost three of their last five games.

Real Madrid vs Pachuca Predictions

  • Real conceded 1.09 non-penalty xG in their draw with Al Hilal
  • The Spaniards have key defensive injuries at this tournament
  • Pachuca had 17 shots against Salzburg, forcing their goalkeeper into five saves

Defensive worries for Real

Xabi Alonso got off to a shaky start at Real Madrid, as the club drew their Club World Cup opener 1-1 against Al Hilal. The Spanish giants struggled to convert their chances, while they also looked vulnerable at the other end.

Former Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves scored from the spot for Al Hilal, but Real also conceded 1.09 non-penalty Expected Goals in that draw. Their defence is missing key names, with Antonio Rudiger, Dani Carvajal, David Alaba, Eder Militao, Ferland Mendy, and Eduardo Camavinga all ruled out.

Pachuca can prove to be a threat, having impressed going forward in a 2-1 loss to Salzburg. The Mexican side had 17 shots, and they dominated the xG battle, but Salzburg’s quality ultimately shone through.

Salzburg’s young goalkeeper Christian Zawieschitzky pulled off a string of saves to prevent the Austrians from dropping points. Pachuca can build on that by causing issues for this undermanned Real backline, but the way Salzburg’s best players were able to cut through the Mexican side suggests Real can claim their first win of the tournament.
