International call-ups look like they may further derail Rennes season. In their first league match since the African Cup of Nations kicked off, Rennes fell to a 1-0 defeat away at Lens, a game in which they didn’t muster a single shot on target.

The loss of a handful of regular starters to the AFCON tournament hasn’t made life any easier for a team who are firmly in a rut. Rennes have lost their last three league games and it’s now one win in five in all competitions. They’re a side who will be low on confidence when they welcome Bordeaux to Roazhon Park on Sunday.

Bordeaux not too bad at all on the road

Despite sitting one point above the Ligue 1 drop zone, Bordeaux haven’t been too shabby on their travels this season. They have only lost three times on the road all season and they have managed to find the net eight times in their last four Ligue 1 away games. Not bad going for a side battling at the wrong end of the division.

Bordeaux can take further encouragement from their recent performances in this fixture. They haven’t lost any of their last three meetings with Rennes. Two 1-0 wins last campaign were followed by a 1-1 draw the last time these two met in the reverse fixture earlier this season.

Given the relative league positions of these two teams, many punters are likely to have Rennes kicking off their Sunday multiples. In my mind this one looks at lot closer than the odds will have you believe; it has the makings of a coupon buster. As such, I am more than happy to chance Bordeaux at a healthy price. In the correct score takes I will predict a 2-1 away win.
