Reus Deportiu vs Albacete Predictions

This game features two sides that have made pretty solid starts to the new Spanish Segunda Division season. Both Reus and Albacete ended last term in the wrong half of the division but the early signs are relatively strong that they could do better this time around. This Sunday’s meeting promises to be a relatively even affair.

Reus are the latest in a long line of clubs to come from nowhere to take their place in the professional top two tiers of Spanish football. The Catalans had operated between the 3rd and 5th tiers for all of their existence but they’ve been competitive in this league, achieving 11th and 14th places finishes since winning promotion in 2016. A 2-0 win at Elche last time out has got them up and running this time around so they should be able to take a fair bit of confidence into this game.

They are one point worse off than Albacete, who are only in their second season back at this level but they are a much bigger club having played in La Liga as recently as 2005. Rumours that Andres Iniesta could return to his hometown club this summer ultimately proved little more than that but they have managed to assemble a decent squad and they come into this one following an easy 3-0 home win over bottom club Cordoba.

This is likely to be a much tougher challenge though and it’s a game that looks certain to be a very close contest. Last season both Albacete and Reus drew 38% of their league matches, making them the joint draw specialists in the Spanish second tier. Between them they have drawn 3 of their 6 games so far this term too with both of Albacete’s opening two matches ending all square.

The visitors are the slight favourites here but there is little sense in backing them at around 6/4 for the win. They’ve not won any of their last 7 away games in the Spanish Segunda and have only won 3 of their last 27 overall on the road in the league. All those wins were against teams that ended up getting relegated last term and Reus are slightly better than that level.

Reus have drawn 3 of their last 4 at home in the league too and overall backing the Draw looks about the best bet here.
