Roma may have frustrated at times this season, but their exemplary home form could yet guide them to a top-four finish in Serie A – as well as more continental success for Jose Mourinho. Having seen off Juventus and Real Sociedad without conceding at the Stadio Olimpico in the last week, the Giallorossi will approach Sunday’s meeting with an improving Sassuolo outfit in confident mood.

Roma have won five home games in a row – all to nil – after taking charge of their Europa League last-16 tie with a 2-0 victory over La Real on Thursday. Mourinho’s men have now won eight of their last nine on home soil, the only exception being when a much-changed team was turned over by Cremonese in the Coppa Italia – and all eight of those triumphs have been accompanied by clean sheets. Last week’s hard-fought win over Juve showed Roma’s potential, and if they maintain their form at the Stadio Olimpico, Champions League qualification could beckon – one way or another.

However, Sassuolo could represent difficult opponents after winning four of their last six matches – a run which began with that memorable 5-2 thrashing of Milan at San Siro in January. That sequence represents a fine achievement for a Neroverdi side which had previously gone eight matches without a win, and they also held Roma to a 1-1 draw in November’s return fixture. On the road, however, Sassuolo have won just three times all season, with 17 of their 30 points coming at home.

While Sassuolo’s attacking quality may put punters off the win to nil market, backing Roma to win a game containing under 3.5 goals looks a good way of ensuring additional value when backing the solid hosts, who are unbeaten in the teams’ last five meetings.
