Romania vs Lithuania Betting Tips & Predictions

Romania were drawn in a fairly easy qualification group for Euro 2016, and they looked to be on their way to coasting to qualification as they won four of their opening five matches. But they tailed off considerably during the latter half of the qualifiers, allowing Norther Ireland to take the top spot in Group F as Romania drew four of their final five matches, winning the other one.

Admittedly, they did still manage to go through the entire campaign without losing, but their lack of wins saw Hungary gain ground on them, and they only ended up with a four point advantage over 3rd despite their  excellent start to the campaign.

They are very difficult to beat though. Their friendly draw with Italy in November saw them avoid defeat for the 15th time in a row, and on home turf they haven’t lost since a 2-0 loss to Turkey in 2013. They will want to win these two friendlies to get spirits in the camp back up before the European Championships start.

Lithuania could well be the perfect way to get back to winning ways. The visitors have lost six of their last eight matches and finished second from bottom in Group E of the European Championship qualifiers.

Away from home they have lost five and drawn two of their last seven matches, and they have failed to score in all but one of those games. Meanwhile, Romania have won three and drawn three of their last six outings at home.

However, they haven’t exactly entertained their home crowd. They have averaged under one goal per game in their last six matches and have relied on their defensive stability to get results. It’s worked as well, as they have only conceded two in their last eight home matches. This has resulted in 12 of their last 13 home matches having fewer than three goals scored, which makes odds of 3/4 for Under 2.5 Goals very good value. I’m backing a 1-0 Romania win at 4/1 too.
