Ross County vs St Mirren Predictions

St Mirren will travel to Dingwall this weekend where they’ll be hosted by Ross County at Victoria Park. Can either side break their winless streaks?

After an extremely strong start to the season, Championship winners Ross County have fallen into a slump in the last couple of weeks before the international break.

The side managed by Steven Ferguson & Stuart Kettlewell has just come from a fresh defeat at the hands of a resurgent Aberdeen team. The Dons were by far the better side on the day, with Greg Leigh opening the scoring late in the 1st half. The Staggies conceded their 2nd after Sam Cosgrove converted a penalty on the brink of half-time. Aberdeen then trebled their lead 5 minutes into the 2nd half, handing Ross County their 3rd defeat in a row.

The Dingwall outfit had won every one of their 6 games before drawing 0-0 with Hearts in the league. They then went on to crash out of the League Cup at the hands of Partick Thistle before losing to Livingston and Aberdeen.

St Mirren’s start to the season has been a bit inconsistent, with Jim Goodwin’s side currently on 3 points after the first 4 games of the season.

The Buddies’ most recent game was a narrow 2-1 defeat to Livingston at the Tony Macaroni Arena. Alan Lithgow got the goals flowing in the 26th minute after he took advantage of a free header to score the first of the afternoon. Lyndon Dykes then doubled Livi’s lead with just over half an hour to play. St Mirren pulled one back thanks to Kyle Magennis, but the 21-year-old’s long-range effort wasn’t enough to salvage a point for St Mirren.

Both sides will have had a couple of weeks to regroup before going in head-first to their upcoming fixtures. Their league form has been almost the same, but Ross County will be more in need of a win as they have suffered an extra defeat more than their next opponents. The Staggie’s home form has been superb, winning 5 of their last 6 games at Victoria Park and only conceding on 2 occasions. St Mirren’s away form is not particularly good, as Jim Goodwin’s side has drawn 4 times and lost 3 times in their last 7 away days. Their last win was on the last day of the Premiership season when they beat Dundee. Moreover, the Buddies have only scored once in their last 4 games away from home, so we’re backing the hosts to win to nil here, with a final score of 2-0.
