Rotherham vs Cheltenham Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in the last five Rotherham home league games.
  • Both teams have scored in five of the last six Cheltenham away league games.
  • Rotherham have won seven of their last eight home games in League Two.

Millers may have too much for the Robins

Rotherham’s task against Cheltenham on Saturday could be a bit trickier than the oddsmakers suggest as the visitors will arrive at AESSEAL New York Stadium on an unbeaten run of three games.

The Robins have lost only four of their last 15 in League Two and are one place off the highest position they have achieved the season in 13th. Three consecutive 1-1 draws against promotion contenders Oxford and two clubs just around them in the table were all fully deserved and they may not be far away from getting another in south Yorkshire.

That’s because the Millers have lost some of their momentum because of two defeats in their last three league games. A Boxing Day defeat at Accrington ended Rotherham’s 21-game unbeaten run in all competitions and, after a latish winner got them three points at home to Bolton, they lost again to relegation-threatened Fleetwood last weekend.

Hosts have fully-fit squad

Paul Warne’s side were denied the chance to quickly put things right when their midweek match against Lincoln City was called off because of a frozen pitch. But Warne has a fully-fit squad at his disposal and should be able to coax a performance worthy of a sixth straight home out of them.

Cheltenham are usually an ambitious team on their travels, as their record of having scored nine times in their last five road trips suggests. But they can get caught out at the back and we would expect Rotherham to fire in a couple of goals to get them the points.

Rotherham to win and both teams to score looks a good play here, although the evens about BTTS might be enough for some. The hosts record of winning seven of their last eight on home turf is an impressive stat to contend with and Cheltenham may just fall short of earning a point. A 2-1 result is forecast as Cheltenham have conceded 2.2 goals per away game since September and scored at a rate of 1.3 gals across those contests.
