Both Teams To Score and Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Rotherham have to win to have any chance of staying up. That suggests they could throw caution to the wind in this clash. The Millers beat Millwall 2-1 on Monday and might be able to achieve something similar against a Plymouth side with five defeats in their last six games. Both teams have scored in six of Argyle’s last nine away league games too.

Rotherham 2-1

Reason for tip

Rotherham won their last home game 2-1 while Plymouth lost their last away game by the same score. Neither team has been scoring many goals of late, but the circumstances around this game could mean that changes.

Morgan Whittaker To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Morgan Whittaker has scored 19 Championship goals for a struggling side, including two in his last four appearances. The Plymouth winger scored four goals in four games the last time Neil Dewsnip took temporary charge of the team around Christmas.

Millers in must-win territory again

Championship survival remains mathematically possible for Rotherham, but the Millers must beat Plymouth for their second home win in a row to keep their chances alive. After finally bringing an end to their five-game goal drought against Millwall, Leam Richardson’s side stunned the Lions with a late winner on Easter Monday.

Games involving Rotherham where both teams score have been pretty infrequent this season, but the circumstances around this clash suggest it could well happen.

Plymouth sacked head coach Ian Foster in the wake of a 1-0 home defeat to Bristol City that left them languishing one place and one point above the drop zone. They have an 18-point advantage on Rotherham, who must win all six of their final games to have any chance of scrambling out of the bottom three.

Watch out for Whittaker

It is virtually impossible that they will do that but Richardson’s side showed enough spirit against a battling Millwall side to suggest they can beat the Pilgrims.

Plymouth director of football Neil Dewsnip takes charge for a second time this season and the results from his first spell as boss around Christmas suggest a high-scoring game could be in the cards. Argyle scored nine and conceded 10 during a four-game spell before Foster came in and brought the goal average back down again.

Morgan Whittaker, who scored four goals during Dewsnip’s last temporary reign, could be one to watch if Plymouth play in a similar fashion as he looks to break the 20-goal barrier for the campaign.
